Apricity

Apricity is a heart-warming ballad for euphonium & piano, written in 2022 for Duo GIOVIVO's 2023 CD Release.

The piece opens with a descending modal line, which depicts the tender scenes of snowfall on a white hiemal morning. The music flows with a series of slightly variated ostinatos in the accompanying piano line, portraying the gentle dance of snowflakes in the wind. The piece continues with a disparity between mellow and cold passages, which gradually builds towards a beautiful climax. At this pinnacle  in the piece, the music emulates the break-through warmth of the winter sun.
